Unit records and plays at selected speed then suddenly changes to a much higher speed. Two different repair shops cannot find any problems. Any clues to what this problem could be?

check the capacitors on your servo amplifier board, specifically the 3 blue sanyo 0.1 uf/25volt. Can definitely cause a speed issue.
