Ok real quick, Love my new ART MPA Gold preamp. I’ll have a full review next week.

Last Sunday I took in a full day of networking with film types. Production people, actors, union reps and directors were there to tell stories and help people go further in film. What they talked about was valuable, however what was really worth the trip was the networking and working the room.
In this economy you can’t just do one thing sometimes. For example, you’re big into recording, and you like recording bands for example. Is that where it ends? Heck no! With recording gear there’s the possibility of soundtrack work, voice work, podcasting, webcasts, eBooks, phone message machines… All sorts of interesting gigs.
So, how do you find those jobs? Are they in the paper or even on-line? Not likely. You find them by networking constantly. Join facebook, LinkedIn, and what-ever kind of forum that you can find that interests you. Not just professional forums, but also the silly ones. Why? People on those forums are from all over and have different backgrounds and needs. Then there are the gatherings; acting classes, conventions, workshops and then the wander downtown. Taking a walk into town to get a cup of coffee, meet people, say hi, let them know that you can help them out with their recording needs.
Are ya shy? Take an acting class. Even if you have no desire to act, it will help you break out of that shell and give you better networking skills. And that recording hobby could just turn into a great career.

Excellent post! Thank you for that.
Do Linked and Face book and other such like sites good for actual networking? I always thought it was more for the fun than for work, but would be interested in hearing how you find and network with people from your field, and if anything concrete has happened for you via these sites
